Linkwell
Corp Offers Bird Flu Disinfectant Announces the
OTC Report -

The OTC Report
recommends Linkwell Corporation will introduce a
new series of disinfection indicators for
hospitals and clinics. The new line of steam
pressure disinfection indicators were developed
by a Linkwell subsidiary, Shanghai Likang
Disinfectant Company, Limited. Linkwell has
positioned the products to compete directly with
a series of products offered by 3M Company in
China.

ADB Plans
Grant Projects to Address Growing Avian Flu
Threat - October

ADB is planning
$58 million in grant projects to help stem the
growing avian influenza threat in Asia and the
Pacific before it grows into a human pandemic
that costs the region millions of lives and tens
of billions of dollars. ADB has already prepared
for consideration by ADB's Board of Directors in
November a $30 million grant project for
regional communicable disease control in
Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, and
Viet Nam.

Wetland Drainage Could Spread Bird Flu

BirdLIfe
International today warned that hasty responses
to Avian Influenza based on incomplete or
unsound data could do great damage to birds and
other biodiversity, while actually raising the
risk to people and to the economically important
poultry industry. BirdLife International’s
Partners throughout Europe, such as the RSPB (BirdLife
in the UK), are working or preparing to work
with their governments to monitor migratory wild
bird populations and to provide scientific data
and expert guidance.

Avian flu, but is the Pharma industry ready

Earlier this year,
statistics from the WHO, estimated that 150
million people would die from the current
outbreak of bird flu. Britain’s chief medical
officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, recently announced
that the government’s contingency planning was
based on bird flu killing 50,000 people in the
UK. This number must be considered against the
12,000 people who die each year during the
‘normal’ flu season.

Officials Consult on Bird Flu Preparations

Media briefing on efforts by federal, state, local
and airport officials in planning emergency response
to passengers presenting signs and symptoms of a
possible communicable disease at Los Angeles
International Airport (LAX). The media briefing will
follow a 5-1/2 hour, closed-door table-top exercise
and planning meeting attended by airport,
healthcare, public health and other stakeholders to
discuss the multi-agency response.
